Mrs. Vanderhyde started her teaching career far away from St. Paul’s. Two months after college graduation in 2010, she moved to China to teach. In China, she taught children from preschool up through post-graduate students, however most of her time was spent with primary grades and college-aged students. While living and working abroad, Jessica developed a great sense of what Christian ministry and teaching is about. She also learned about a different culture and has been able to use those experiences as she teaches her students in America.
Jessica graduated from Martin Luther College (New Ulm, MN) in 2010 with a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with an emphasis in Science. She has also received her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in English as a second language. Jessica loves to learn more about teaching and gets excited about other professional development opportunities.
Things that make her smile...
Jessica loves the joy of learning that students have in the lower grades. She enjoys coming to work, seeing the students, and hearing their stories. If there is ever an opportunity to travel, sign her up! During her time abroad, she was able to visit many different Asian countries such as Nepal, Cambodia, Japan, Thailand, and more. She has also visited some European countries, Canada, and has been to all the regions of the United States. After school you might see her helping out with school sports teams or taking a walk around the neighborhood.
